Day 1 - Pit stop in the historic town of Vianden!
From the Netherlands (Dordrecht) you can reach Vianden after a 3,5 hour drive. Upon arrival, you can easily park the car in the village along the side of the road, then relax with a cup of coffee and a tasty lunch.
Yes, with a full stomach it's time for the first (and honestly: only) attraction in Vianden! The castle in Vianden is a real attraction and was built throughout the 11th until the 14th century. Until 1977 it was owned by a grand ducal family, after which the castle was transferred to the state. To this day, it is one of the most important historical monuments in Europe and has regained its full glory since the restoration.
The castle can also be admired from the inside. This is at least as impressive as the outside! From the rooms, which are decorated as if the Grand Ducal family still lives there, to the beautiful works of art and the view from the top. After this cultural pit stop, you will drive to the center of Luxembourg within half an hour.
Restaurants and Nightlife in Luxembourg
Yes! Once you arrive at your final destination, you will of course immediately want to go into the city. The former brewery district, Les Rives de Clausen, is now a pleasant area with plenty of restaurants and bars where you can eat and drink or even go for a dance. It's all way too cozy and fun to remember that you wanted to capture it all.. As you can see or actually not see, because we forgot to take pictures... Oops! Even more reason to check it out for yourself!
Day 2 - Discover the Old City Center Luxemburg
Grund is the old, lower part of the city. You can enjoy the view on the way down through the many slopes and old stairs. You look out over medieval houses surrounded by the later city expansions of the 19th and 20th centuries. Once downstairs you will find a lot of fun in the small, cobble stone streets of Grund. If you are ready for a small snack and something to drink, look for the pub with the terrace along the canal. The beer is cold, the terrace is lovely and the snacks are great!
TIP: Are you unable to brave the stairs? Then there is always the lift from the La Cornische viewpoint to Grund and back up.
Day 3 - Admire the varied landscape along the Mullerthal Trail
The Mullerthal Trail stretches over 112 km through the beautiful landscape of the Mullerthal Region - Luxembourg's Little Switzerland. Along three different routes, you will find the most bizarre rock formations, open meadows, mossy forests and picturesque valleys. You can take walks along the Mullerthal Trail from several starting points. Something for everyone in terms of route type, time and fitness level. The trail is marked on every route with the M for, you guessed it, Mullerthal!
After this wonderful walk in the fresh air, the three-day trip is over. If you are headed back to the Netherlands, you will cross the Dutch border within about 3 hours. Safe journey back home!
